Class Experience

Each day, we will discuss two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Olympians the Lightning Thief. Each lesson will begin with a discussion over KWL (Know, What, Learn) charts and vocabulary words for the chapters. We will then go over the students' comprehensions of the chapter with discussion questions and quiz games. During the comprehension section, we will also go over different literary devices and terms (point of view, alliteration, allusion, metaphor, foreshadowing, etc.). Afterward, the students will have opinionated discussions with one another from questions I ask of them to help them relate to characters in the book. Then there will be one to two activities pertaining to the chapter. This pattern will repeat four times each lesson as four chapters will be read and discussed each time.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My love for Greek mythology started at a young age and after this book came out, I started using it to create camps for my scout troops that I lead. The novel has very relatable characters that speak to young learners and help them connect, relate, and enjoy reading.
