Class Experience

In this 9 week course students will be reading the first Percy Jackson novel (Percy Jackson & the Olympians; The Lightning Thief). Students will be able to discuss the chapters with their classmates, play fun quiz games such as Kahoot, respond to questions about the novel, the plot, and the characters as well as learn new vocabulary words.

Weekly breakdown:
During the first week of class I will be posting an introduction video of the course and what students can expect each week. If I notice a number of students with the same question or students are struggling to answer a question on the google form or in our discussion forum, I will post a video talking through the questions for a more in depth explanation in hopes that students will be able to further their learning for future discussions.

Each Monday, students will have access to their readers response log (google form) where they will answer questions about the chapters to help work on their comprehension, writing, inferencing, and cognitive skills. They will also be given a link to their weekly kahoot game where they will be able to answer fun questions about the chapters to see how much they remember about small details!

On Wednesday each week students will be given 1-2 discussion questions or activities that they will post to the classroom page which will allow for discussion among other classmates and the teacher. Students will also be given the next set of chapter readings for the upcoming week. Students are kindly reminded to only speak about the chapters assigned for the week in order to avoid spoilers for other students!

All assignments must be passed in on Friday to ensure I (teacher Kalleigh) have enough time to look at everyone's assignments and give the appropriate feedback before starting with the new assignments.

The link will be posted to the classroom page. Each student will be required to submit a 'nickname' I ask that the student please use their first name only so I can keep track of who is participating each week. We will also be using google forms.
