In this 3-week interactive literature course, students will explore Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief through guided discussions, mythology connections, and creative activities. This course encourages critical thinking, literary analysis, and engagement with Greek mythology, all while making reading fun and interactive.

📚 What Will Be Taught?
Reading comprehension & analysis – Character development, symbolism, and themes.
Greek mythology connections – Comparing myths in Percy Jackson to real-world Greek mythology.
Creative writing & storytelling – Journals, alternative story endings, and rewriting myths.
Critical thinking – Examining moral dilemmas, fate vs. free will, and hero archetypes.

📖 How Is the Class Structured?
📚 Weekly reading assignment (~3-4 chapters per week)

🎭 Creative activities (journaling, drawing, mythology challenges)

Each session starts with a recap & warm-up discussion, followed by an interactive lesson on mythology, themes, and character development. Then, students participate in guided activities and reflections before wrapping up with a preview of the next week’s reading.

Week 1: Welcome to Camp Half-Blood Chapters 1-7
 Percy Jackson’s world is turned upside down when he discovers he’s a demigod! We’ll discuss his journey, Greek mythology connections, and how his powers shape his identity. Activity: Create your own demigod parent and special abilities.

Lesson 2:
Week 2: Monsters, Myths, and Quests Chapters 8-14
 Percy trains at Camp Half-Blood and receives a quest. We’ll analyze the hero’s journey, discuss how mythology shapes the story, and explore Camp Half-Blood life. Activity: Design your own Camp Half-Blood schedule.

Lesson 3:
Week 3: Facing the First Trials Chapters 15-22
 Percy and his friends embark on their quest, encountering Medusa and other dangers. We’ll explore Greek myths in the modern world and the theme of fate vs. free will. Activity: Rewrite a classic myth with a modern twist.

Parental Guidance
Parental Guidance: Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief contains mild fantasy violence, mythological creatures, and battle scenes that may be intense for sensitive readers. Themes of parental abandonment and betrayal are also present. No external tools or accounts are required. Students may use paper or digital tools for optional creative assignments. The book is rated ages 10+ by Common Sense Media.
