Percy Jackson Book 1: Fluency & Conversation, Script form by Professional Actor
Class experience
US Grade 4 - 7
In this fun and engaging Reader's Theatre camp, we will share the reading of Rick Riordan's FIRST novel Percy Jackson The Lightening Thief, adapted for Reader's Theatre. There are five scripts adapted from the first book, and we will read one script per day. We will then have in depth discussions that will cover: themes, character development, foreshadowing, antagonist and protagonist, metaphors and the hero's journey. Day 1: Chapter 1 - Reading script and discussion of characters Day 2:...
Reader's Theatre is cooperative, and provides opportunities to learn with support. It's creative and encourages language experimentation and risk-taking. It provides natural occasions for practice and enables children to build a repertoire of reading strategies with a purpose. Apart from the fun aspect, there are many opportunities for the emergent reader to become comfortable with reading a script. The children will have fun listening to each other, reading together and celebrating their accomplishments. Pacing, inflection, expression and fluency will all be practiced. Through open discussion, students will learn thinking out of the box, improvisation and will use their imagination!
What better way to encourage reading than to have some fun with a jarring novel like Percy Jackson! I have a Bachelor's Degree with a Major in Drama and a Minor in English. I have performed and toured with a cast where we performed across Alberta, Canada - engaging young students and bringing with us a love of drama! I am a homeschool mom myself and I have two children with special learning needs, including Aspergers and NVLD. I guide my teaching to each child's unique needs and will support and encourage so everyone feels comfortable and accepted.
