Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Each week learners will come to class prepared by reading the assigned chapters. We start by summarizing the chapters. Learners will then discuss what they liked and did not like from the weeks reading. We will talk about our favorite characters and their Heros journey. I will have questions that are meant to inspire discussion with the class. The learners are welcome to ask their own questions. If learners want their camera's off during class that is fine with me as long as they turn on their camera when entering the classroom.

Week One: Read chapters 1-4 before class. During class we will summarize chapters 1-4 and discuss: What examples dose the book give to hint that Percy is different? Who are the characters in the story?

Week Two: Read chapters 5-8 before class. During class we will summarize chapters 5-8 and discuss:
What is their first impression of camp Half-Blood? What gods and goddesses are mentioned and what are they in charge of?

Week Three: Read chapters 9-12 before class. During class we will summarize chapters 9-12 and discuss: We will predict what the prophesy means and Percy getting ready for the quest.

Week Four: Read chapters 13-16 before class. During class we will summarize chapters 13-16 and discuss: The side quest that Ares sends Percy on.

Week Five: Read chapters 17-19 before class. During class we will summarize chapters 17-19 and discuss: How is Percy's journey into the underworld similar to Greek mythology?

Week Six: Read chapter 20-22 before class. During class we will summarize chapters 20-22 and discuss: The conclusion of the story and where we think the next book will take us.

Week Seven: Watch the movie "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" before class. During class we will compare and contrasts the book and the movie.

Thank you for taking a look at my class. Please let me know if you have any questions or want to request a day/time.
