This class is taught in English.
By the end of each meeting, the students will be able to: 1) Summarize the plot of chapters we have read. 2) Identify characters, creatures, and references to mythology in other media. 3) Explain the influence of mythology on our own culture.
Students will read the assigned chapters before each meeting and come to class, prepared to talk about what they've read. Two mini-projects will be assigned, halfway through the course, as well. Assigned reading is due before each class meeting so students can come ready to discuss reading: Class 1 ("The Lightning Thief" Chapters 1-6) Class 2 ("The Lightning Thief" Chapters 7-14) Class 3 ("The Lightning Thief" Chapters 15-22 & Mini-Project #1 Due) Class 4 ("Sea of Monsters" Chapters 1-6) Class 5 ("Sea of Monsters" Chapters 7-14) Class 6 ("Sea of Monsters" Chapter 15-20 & Mini-Project #2 Due)
All students will need a copy of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Copies can be found at either Barnes & Noble or your local library.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will receive a formal assessment every class meeting.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
--To assess student comprehension of root use, I will be utilizing the Kahoot app almost every class. Students must have access to a second device for Kahoot.
