 Week 1
Lesson 1
ONE & TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE
Students will learn about One & Two Point Perspective, and how to accurately arrange shapes and objects within a vanishing point.
Lesson 2
SOFT ELEMENTS
Students will learn how to recognize soft elements within a landscape. Additionally, students will learn about the value scale, and a variety of pencil techniques that could be used to depict elements such as trees, shrubs, turf, mulch and soil. They will apply these skills to a One-Point Perspective drawing of a grassy trail.
Lesson 3
HARD ELEMENTS
Students will learn how to recognize and accurately draw hard elements in a Two-Point Perspective. Students will draw back to the knowledge learned in Day 2 in order to fill the space with soft elements. They will apply these skills to a Two-Point Perspective drawing of a beach house.
Students will master core concepts like one point and two point perspective, horizon lines, and vanishing points, as well as soft and hard elements, through practical exercises and hands-on application.
Teacher Allie May is a contemporary artist who loves to indulge in all mediums, but focuses most on drawing and painting. She is a graduate student in the BFA program at California State University Long Beach, and aims to pursue a career in teaching art. Her art influence began at a young age, but she considers herself “self-taught.” Allie is passionate about encouraging students to master the fundamental skills and technical aspects of creating, but also develop a style that is unique to each student. Her promise is to encourage a mindset where students are confident in themselves and their ability to create.
