 Week 1
Lesson 1
PROPORTIONS & SHAPES
Students will be introduced to the proportions of the human body by setting up an 8 head frame, noting the rules of proportions that should be maintained when drawing figures. They also will learn how to turn a 2D figure into a 3D figure through the introduction of shapes to add volume to a body.
Lesson 2
ANATOMY & FORMS
Students will further explore how to analyze anatomy and how to draw a human form as it appears in various positions or perspectives. They will learn how to simplify each part of the body into basic shapes, capturing different poses and creating their fundamental structures.
Lesson 3
MOVEMENT, PERSPECTIVE & LINE OF ACTION
Students will learn how to observe, analyze and interpret a "line of action" through a series of gesture drawing exercises. They will simplify poses into their fundamental action line, capture the transferred movement, and duplicate the human form.
Students will understand the fundamental principles of dynamic figure drawing. They will gain confidence in capturing gestures, movement and poses of human sketches.
Teacher Allie May is a contemporary artist who loves to indulge in all mediums, but focuses most on drawing and painting. She is a graduate student in the BFA program at California State University Long Beach, and aims to pursue a career in teaching art. Her art influence began at a young age, but she considers herself “self-taught.” Allie is passionate about encouraging students to master the fundamental skills and technical aspects of creating, but also develop a style that is unique to each student. Her promise is to encourage a mindset where students are confident in themselves and their ability to create.
