Pen a Pokemon is a one-time writing class for Pokemon fans! Who doesn't want to create their very own personal Pokemon? In this class, writers will use a unique code to generate the name of their individual Pokemon-themed character. Students will then write a 6-8 sentence descriptive paragraph describing their Pokemon in great detail. Bonus! The class ends with a fun trading card activity. Together we will use the entire writing process (brainstorming, writing, revision, and final writing) to complete our writing activity. Who's your character? • Use a unique key to unlock your Pokemon name • Group brainstorming activity • Write a 6-8 sentence descriptive paragraph about your newly created character. Writing is a breeze with our writing organizer. • Share your writing with the class. (shy learners or off-camera learners are welcome to participate in their comfort level) • Bonus Activity: Design, create, and write a trading card. Let's not forget an evolution or two. Outschoolers in my themed writing classes write a detailed 6-8 sentence paragraph. We focus on learning the paragraph formula of; topic, supporting and concluding sentences, writing strong descriptive sentences, and finally reviewing our work for corrections. Spelling and grammatical errors are going to be made, and guess what, that is fine! My goal is to enable your student to enter into the writing process with excitement and fun! Pokemon-themed writing classes provide complete, in-depth exposure to the narrative, descriptive, informative, and order of event writing. This class is an excellent jump-in point if your learner is interested in enrolling in: ·Pokemon Write: How to Catch a Pokemon; Sequential Paragraph (one-time class) ·Pokemon Write: I Choose You; Narrative Paragraph (one-time class) ·Pokemon Paragraphs (three-week class) ·Pokemon Write: Character Design Lab (Four week Class)
Learning Goals
Prior knowledge of paragraph writing is helpful, but not necessary, as these are skills we will be working on within our sessions. Reluctant writers, emerging writings, and experienced writers will benefit from this class.
Student progress is monitored throughout the class, students who are needing extra writing time are encouraged to finish outside of class time by reviewing our class video.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
If your child needs assistance with physical writing, please be available to help. Per the Outschool policy, all non-enrolled students must remain off-camera; however, parents are welcome to sit next to their students during class time. If your writer needs help from you during class, please mute your microphone to avoid excess background noise for other students.
This class is taught to the pace of the average enrolled learner and Outschoolers will find this is an academic writing class, we spend time "chatting" Pokemon during our brainstorming session, however, students are expected to stay on topic during the writing portion of our class as we work through the writing organizer. If you feel the writing pace of this class might exceed the abilities of your student, and you know your child's learning abilities the best, please take this into consideration when making your enrollment decision.
