1 live meeting
25 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Pre-school aged children will have fun learning about skunks in this 25 minute class. We will use a google slide presentation to keep us on track. Our agenda looks like this: 1) Meet each other: If students are comfortable talking and introducing themselves, we will meet each student and practice greeting each other appropriately. One benefit of Outschool is taking advantage of the social opportunities it creates! 2) Meet my skunk puppet, who needs a name! After reviewing/learning the letter s, the students will choose from a list to pick a name that starts with the letter s. 3) Optionally, if students are comfortable, students share what they already know about skunks, as I use the skunk puppet to interact. 4) Look at some of the cutest skunk photo's (some taken with permission from Simply Schoolgirl's extensive skunk unit) and watch a short youtube clip. Talk about what we see and learn some fun skunk facts, including where they live, what they eat, why they spray, and more! Practice counting to ten as we learn skunks can spray accurately up to ten feet. 5) Learn and sing a fun skunk song together, with movements. 6) Play an imagination movement game, pretending we are skunks, making choices such as what to eat, when to spray, and counting how many feet we can spray, etc. Throughout the class, discussion and engagement will be a priority for those students who are interested. If a student prefers to stay quieter and just listen, that will be respected as well. No previous knowledge is needed. *Health/physical fitness note: We will be jumping and moving during this class, so make sure your child has some clean floor space and access to water if he/she needs a water break! Physically, the movements can be adapted to all levels so please reach out before class if you would like to discuss specifics ahead of class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Priority number one is that all students feel welcome, valued, and respected in my classes. As part of my class introduction time, I emphasize personal introductions for those who are
comfortable sharing, including each learner's home state or country.
I teach ongoing advanced preschool meetings, kindergarten-first grade story retell lessons, and a variety of one-time classes based on social emotional themes such as thankfulness/gratitude, compliments, teamwork, responsibility, and more.
I hold a teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education and have taught both kindergarten and transitional kindergarten in the public schools. As a mother and teacher, I enjoy and see great significance in purposefully teaching social emotional skills and leading character building activities. I have additionally participated in writing a grant based upon a social emotional curriculum, complete with much research on how to effectively break down and teach appropriate mini lessons for each age group. Part of my teaching philosophy includes actively engaging students during lessons, including call and response, games, hands-on activities, and more.
My own two children, ages 9 and 11, keep me actively involved with lots of kids and interests, including Girlscouts, gynmastics, dance, fishing, hunting, basketball, baseball, and cross country. We live on a lake and try to make sure we spend some time outside each day!
