Teacher expertise and credentials
My passion has always been visual arts. I think that art-making and creating is part of the human experience. Creation comes in many forms, and I believe all are equally important. All students deserve to be treated as human beings capable of learning and growing. Having a growth mindset in the classroom, that is holding students to exceed their own standards, is essential to students feeling successful in the classroom.
When I'm not in my studio painting, I am teaching, growing food in my own garden, studying nature and preparing meals. I've been cooking and gardening since I was a little girl, and I tend an organic garden with my husband on our homestead. I have a Master of Fine Art from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a Bachelor of Fine Art from East Carolina University. I have been an arts educator for over 10 years, working with students in schools, community centers, and other programs. I create my work in my studio located in Pittsboro, North Carolina. I’ve exhibited in various local venues in addition to traveling the country to exhibit at art fairs and festivals. You can read more about me and my work on my website at www.LaurendeSerres.com
I believe that all students can learn and am happy to accommodate students as needed. Feel free to contact me about student needs so that I your learner has the best possible experience with my class.
