In this wonderful four day camp, your child will be taught: yoga postures, sing songs, participate in mindfulness activities, dabble with meditation and begin to understand how the breath can help control big feelings. This course is built to promote stress relief, improve flexibility, increase strength and most importantly, have fun! Camp Agenda: Day 1: We will cover the meaning of yoga, meditation and pranayama (breath control). Children will learn how and why we meditate. They will be introduced to several beginner yoga poses, participate in a mindfulness activity, jog thru the jungle & learn how to relax their bodies during, "Peaceful Garden", a resting portion of our practice to promote deep relaxation. Day 2: Your child will begin to learn new poses, incorporate more breathing techniques and participating in yoga activities with their favorite doll, stuffy, or action figure. Children will participate in a (short) Peaceful Garden and before closing the class they will be asked if they would like to share their thoughts with their classmates. Day 3: We will review what was taught during Day 2 and build upon it. Your child will learn more: poses, breathing techniques, and a new meditation. They will participate in a yoga song/activity with a small paper ball to promote mindfulness and movement. Children will then be guided into a (short) Peaceful Garden. Before closing the class, they will be asked if they would like to share their thoughts with their classmates. Day 4: Your child will participate in balance poses and learn a short yoga flow. They will enjoy a fun yoga based activity and story filled with poses. Children will then be guided into a (short) Peaceful Garden and before closing the class they will be asked if they would like to share their thoughts about anything learned or if they have any questions.
Learning Goals
Student's should finish this 4 day camp with a better understanding of the true meaning of yoga. They will have been taught strategies to use when feeling anxious, overly excited or sad.
