Does your little one LOVE dogs? Have you ever been nervous about them approaching a strange dog without asking permission first. In this class, I will model correct behavior and then have them practice by using their favorite toy dog. We will learn and practice how to correctly approach a dog which will include making sure we have permission from our guardian as well as the owner of the dog. We will learn how to hold a dog with care and support. We will talk about warning signs of a dog that is becoming bothered or agitated, and what to do if that happens. Students will be encouraged to respect all animals especially dogs as they learn about how to be better friends with dogs by learning and understanding the kinds of behaviors that make dogs feel more comfortable about their presence or more fearful of them.
Learning Goals
Students will gain confidence and understanding of how to carefully and safely approach a dog. They will also grow in their understanding of how to respect a dogs boundaries, as well as the importance of always asking an adults permission before approaching a dog.
