What's included

1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hours
Homework
Homework will not be assigned, but students might find it fun to play with different patterns in math by using the interactive 100 chart that is linked to the class.
Assessment
I will informally assess student's ability to understand and use and predict patterns in math.

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
We will investigate mathematical patterns made by finding multiples of each number. They will count in multiples and form patterns on the hundreds chart on the screen. They will be shown patterns and asked what comes next in the pattern and to tell the rule of the pattern. This class is excellent for students that are learning or are about to learn their multiplication facts but that like patterns. It is also a higher level thinking class because they have to find the rule, and apply it to find the next number in the series. There will be a lot of discussion about patterns that they see and even visualize with their 100 chart. I have certification in teaching gifted students and this is a higher level thinking class that advanced learners would enjoy.

Learning Goals

Students will learn that there are patterns in math. They will learn to recognize patterns that are given to them and they will be asked to find the next number in the pattern. Most of the patterns will be mulitples of numbers, which will be helpful for students learning or about to learn multiplication facts. If time permits, there will also be some more complicated pattern such as the Fibanacci series.

Supply List
If the student has access to a device that they are not taking the class on, having it on this website will be helpful for them. https://www.mathplayground.com/interactive_hundreds_chart.html It is not necessary because a hundreds chart will be displyed on the screen.
