Patterns can be found everywhere, which makes learning how to identify and form patterns a useful skill for preschoolers. When preschoolers build patterns, they use reasoning skills and make logical connections to determine what comes next. These are critical skills for learners to know for Kindergarten. This course introduces preschoolers to patterns. We will focus on AB and AABB patterns. We will use manipulatives to build patterns (like coins, small bears, goldfish crackers, anything you have on hand will work!) Using manipulatives to build patterns is engaging and concrete (they can see what they are doing in real time). Each student will be greeted by the teacher. This course follows an "I do, You do, We do" model. First, the teacher will model how to identify and build patterns. Next, learners will work with the teacher to build a pattern. Finally, they will practice making their own patterns.
Learning Goals
Learners will gain an understanding of AB and AABB patterns.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Teacher Deann. I am so happy to be an Outschool teacher! I have been an ESL teacher in an online classroom for the last 4 years. Prior to this, I taught preschoolers (3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds) in a classroom setting for 8 years. I have my Bachelors in Elementary Education (K-6) with a dual certification in Early Childhood Education (N-3). While I was teaching preschool, I completed my Masters in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
My passion has always been teaching preschoolers. I love when I see that "spark" or "click" when a preschooler grasps a concept we have been working on in the classroom. I believe preschool education should be hands-on, meaningful, and FUN. Preschoolers learn through exploring, movement, songs, and games. It is my goal to teach all subject areas through these outlets.
I am married and have two children, Jackson and Emma. They love Outschool classes, too! We love camping in our travel trailer, gardening (we have a HUGE vegetable garden), playing outside, and going on walks. We have a boxer mix, Orion, too.
I look forward to meeting you and your preschooler in the Outschool classroom!
