Class experience
This class is a one time class that involves reading books and finding the patterns in them. Students should be advanced enough to read the story on their own and thinking critically about what they are reading. This is excellent preparation for algebra and literature analysis. I will read the books (or parts of them) and have the students look at the pictures and search for patterns that are repeated throughout the book as well as throughout several books. The goal is for students to see patterns in the books that they read often in their own home and see patterns in new books as they read them. Students will learn to look for different types of patterns in the books that they read. They will look for repeated phrases, rhyming words, and comprehensive lists that are repeated throughout the book.
Debby has a bachelor's degree in elementary education as well as experience and certification in gifted education.
Any books on the list that you have in your home, you are encouraged to bring to class. However, having any of the books is not required.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Books will include: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?; Are You My Mother?; Green Eggs and Ham; The Wonkey Donkey; This Is The House that Jack Built, and other similar types of books may be used as well.
