Pattern-making 101
Have you ever wanted to learn to draft your own patterns? You will be guided by a professional Costume Technician in this fantastic 8 week adventure to learn some of the basics of flat pattern-making.

Beginner - Intermediate Level
The student will learn vocabulary and attain the skills to draft their own slopers. They will gain knowledge in flat pattern drafting. Through guidance and one-on-one experience you will be begin to draft your own patterns to your measurements. The instructor will guide each student with detailed examples, explanations and patience.
Learning Goals
The student will feel confident to take measurements. They will also be able to draft a bodice, sleeve and collar to specific sizes. The student will also have an understand of how their sloper can used to attain and draft other patterns.

What is Pattern-making?
We will discuss what pattern-making is. The instructor will provided important vocabulary for the student to become familiar with. We will discuss what a sloper is and what it is used for. The student will draft a bodice, sleeve and collar. We will also address how to properly take measurements.

Lesson 2:
Drafting the Bodice
The vocabulary presented in the previous class will be discussed. We will use the measurements taken to draft a bodice. We will touch upon various dart variations.

Lesson 3:
Textiles
Why is it important to have knowledge of textiles? Woven fabrics vs. knitted fabrics. Textile vocabulary will be presented. Laying out the pattern on fabric and cutting. We will focus on the completion of the bodice pattern. Sewing the bodice. We will discuss how the darts etc. are sewn. Collar vocabulary will be presented.

Lesson 4:
Drafting the Collar
Vocabulary will be discussed and we will look at the completed bodice. Any questions on completing the bodice draft will be discussed. A collar will be drafted for the bodice. The various types of collars will also be presented and discussed.
Sleeve vocabulary will be presented.

Other Details
Parental Guidance
Each learner in the class will be using sharp objects, such as needles and scissors. Proper safety guidance and techniques will be shared by the educator.
Pre-Requisites
The student has basic sewing skills. Some knowledge of garment construction can be helpful but not necessary. Vocabulary and more detail specifics will be given to the student by the instructor.

The materials needed will be addressed with the student in our first lesson. We will discuss the PDF document.
