In this spin off of my popular ongoing class, students will gather together on George Washington’s birthday and President’s Day to hear read aloud and then discuss “I Am George Washington” an Ordinary People Who Change The World children’s picture book biography. Students will have ample opportunities to share their own thoughts and perspectives about the book. This class also offers students a vitally important opportunity to discuss and process their own ideas and concerns during these...
Students will gain skills in the following areas: - public speaking - sharing thoughts and insights - building vocabulary - knowledge of historical people and events - exploring the character qualities necessary for being a world changer - understanding where the character studied is on the timeline of history
As a history buff myself, I was on the hunt for historical biographies for very young children. I wanted something in story or picture book form. When I found these, I knew I’d struck gold. I have personally read and discussed every single one of these books with my kindergartener. She requests them to be re-read again and again. They are outstanding.
Students are strongly encouraged to read the book for the class, whether a hard copy is purchased, or on Kindle. Audiobooks can be purchased from Amazon/Audible for a very low cost. This is a book every parent will want in their child’s library for years to come!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
