Welcome to Pathways to Peace! During this 4 week program, learners will get to make lots of mindful art and gain valuable skills for emotional regulation, finding calm, and creative self-expression. We will cover topics like meditation, mindful mark-making, finding and drawing our breath, positive affirmations, emotional body scan, and mandalas. Each lesson begins with a simple meditation to tune into the present moment, followed by a quick check in with learners, and then we will dive into the main activity. Learners will have the opportunity to share their work or any insights they had during the process - though this is not mandatory! My teaching style is patient and adaptable. I bring a creative and supportive energy to the classroom. Learners will be able to interact with me during check ins/ introductions at the beginning of each lesson as well as discussing their work at the end if they choose to. Learners can ask questions at any time during the lessons.

over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
Introduction & Finding Our Breath
We will kick off this 4 week course with an introduction to mindful mark-making which will include a simple meditation and learning to draw our breath. This is a skill that will prove useful for the other lessons and throughout life as you take these lessons with you wherever you go. Please have paper and a simple mark making or coloring tool.

Lesson 2:
Body Scan
During the second lesson, we will begin again with a simple meditation to tune into the present moment followed by the main art directive: a body scan! A body map is provided to print, but learners can also draw their own. We will explore where different emotions and feeling show up in the body and learn how to hold space for them, giving them names and honouring our individual processes. Please bring paper and coloring tools like markers.

Lesson 3:
Affirmation Cards
In our third lesson, after another meditation to ground, we will create our very own deck of positive affirmation cards. Learners will need materials for making cards; simple paper will work, strong paper or box board is great, too. You will also need scissors, coloring tools like markers, crayons, pastels, or colored pencils, and a writing tool. Don't worry about pre-cutting your cards. We will do that in-lesson.

Lesson 4:
Mindful Mandalas
We made it! Our final lesson for Pathways to Peace will follow the same structure as before - a simple meditation to begin and then the main art activity. For our last activity together, we will make mindful mandalas. This activity is very grounding, meditative and relaxing and beautifully sums up this program. Please bring paper and coloring tools like markers, and a writing tool.

Parental Guidance
Sometimes, emotions can be scary. My classroom is always supportive and judgement free but one can never predict how some might feel when exploring their emotions. During these lessons, the content is not heavy, we do not dive into specific or individual issues. The activities are focused on developing skills that learners can use in everyday life, rather than focusing on one emotion or discussing certain topics that might activate learners.
Pre-Requisites
There are no pre-requisites for this class! All skills and abilities welcome.
Supply List
Supplies for each lesson as included in their descriptions but learners should have paper, coloring tools like markers, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, pastels, etc. Most people have these items at home. If not, visit your local discount store and grab a few to have on hand for the lessons and after. Having art supplies handy is beneficial!
