Does your learner want to teach their dog tricks in order to apply for the AKC Novice Trick Training Title? Maybe, your learner just wants to have fun teaching their old dog new tricks? In this exciting 5-week class, children will learn how to instruct their dog to various tricks. Tricks will include paw, shake a paw, high five, roll over, play dead, paws up, take a bow, spin and twirl, crawl like a snake or ring a bell. Teacher will model the trick using a demonstration dog. Students will learn how to teach their dog how to do various tricks using treats and positive reinforcement. If a clicker is available, the learner may use it in the training also.
Teacher is a Certified Dog Trainer (CDT-C), AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator. Her dog Roxy holds the AKC Title of Notice Trick Training. An important note is that not all dogs can learn tricks at the same pace and some tricks are not recommended for older or arthritic dogs. Also, some breeds can learn tricks faster and easier than others.
Homework Offered
This is a one time course and students may continue to practice the various tricks with their dogs ongoing. We will learn three or four tricks per class depending on teacher/student choice.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

Informal assessment online with students completing 5 out of 5 correct behaviors.Grades Offered
Optional: AKC Website: Trick Training for Dogs and 50 Games to Play with Your Dog, Suellen Dainty. Students will need a pet dog, soft pieces of dog treats, chicken or other meat for rewarding, clicker and bell. Dogs should be on a leash and to be able to sit.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Dogs are unpredictable and may take longer to learn commands or tricks than expected. Some dogs may not be able to do certain tricks due to age or size.
Students will need a dog, leash, treats, clicker. Optional: bell. Dogs should be able to sit and it is recommended that they are 4 months old.
