Class Experience
Did you know you can play games with your dogs? Dogs love interaction with children and it builds a strong bond, communication and interaction between them. Also, playing with your dog stimulates their brain and helps them to be calm and well adjusted. In this one time class, students will learn how to play games with their dogs or puppies. We will focus on 3 or 4 games per class to include the Name Game, Hide 'N Seek, Musical Chairs and or Sits, Dancing With Your Dog, Puppy Ping Pong, The...
Student goals are to have fun and learn how to have positive experiences with their dogs or puppies. The learner will strengthen the bond of communication and interaction between human and dog.
Dogs and puppies are unpredictable. All dogs are not suited for all games. Also, dogs learn differently and may not all learn to play the games in the same amount of time. Teacher is a Certified Dog Trainer, CDT-C, AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator and tester observer with Alliance of Therapy Dogs and has trained and certified five therapy dogs of her own.
This is a one time class, but learners are encouraged to continue playing these fun games they learn with their dogs and puppies!
Learners will need a dog or puppy and dog treats. They will also need various household items such as a muffin tin, tennis balls, hula hoop or jump rope, 3 cups or terra cotta pots with holes in bottom, bell and a deck of cards. Optional: clicker.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Information observation and checking for understanding.
35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Dogs are unpredictable and different breeds are better at different games. Scent dogs may respond to certain games while larger dogs may have a difficult time with crouching down. Older and arthritic dogs or dogs with health issues may not feel well enough to do games. Puppies should be at least 4 months old. Dogs should be able to sit.
