Have you recently gotten a puppy or are expecting to soon? In this 4-week course, learners will learn how to train and care for their new puppy. We will discuss appropriate collars, leashes, supplies, crates, and bedding for a new puppy. Learners will be introduced to the techniques of potty training and to control aggressive puppy behaviors such as biting and chewing. Learner will learn to train their puppy to do basic commands such as sit, down, stay and how to walk on a leash.
Learning Goals
Learners will be instructed how to train and care for their new puppy by potty training, proper feeding and use of appropriate equipment for puppy. Learners will be instructed how to control or eliminate unwanted behaviors in their puppies such as chewing and biting. Using treat lures, learners will learn how to take away toys and treat from puppy, practice sit and down commands with distractions, walk on a leash and sit nicely for petting. They will also be able to instructed how to handle their pet for touching in order to prepare puppy for vet visits and grooming appointments.
Week 1: Feeding, Potty training and vaccinations, socialization, proper equipment. Say your name, Sit commands.
Week 2: Unwanted behaviors (chewing, barking, biting), separation stress, bite inhibition, leave it/take it command and walk on a leash.
Week 3: Aggression prevention, drop and give command, down command. Review for graduation.
Week 4: Touch, sit nicely for petting, and handling for grooming. Graduation.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Puppies are immature unpredictable and may not always respond to training techniques quickly. Short training sessions suggested. Younger puppies may train in shorter sessions than the class length.
Supply List
Puppy, treats, leash, crate (optional). It is recommended that puppies are at least 3 to 4 months old, but 2 month old puppies will not be able to train length of class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
