Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 2
Do you have awesome Pokémon cards you want to show off? Come and learn with us!
Parts of speech and fluency are two components of English that should continually be practiced, but often get neglected due to the many standards needing to be taught at the elementary level.
In this ongoing class, we will review nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs to create a different Pokémon-themed story each week. Learners can bring different Pokémon cards or toys each week to show off and use to help them think of different nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. We will use those words to fill in our Pokémon story, then practice reading our creative piece aloud to the class. Learners will volunteer to read a part of the story based on their reading level. The story will be different each week and generally follow the chapters in the book, "Pokemon: I Choose You!"
This class will be interactive so learners should be comfortable speaking online.

Class outline:
-Learners will introduce themselves and the cards or toys they brought
-Learners will review definitions of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs with one of my Pokemon cards
-Learners will take turns creating words using parts of speech using their Pokemon cards
-Teacher and learners will take turns reading parts of the story based on reading level.
-Learners will receive a different Pokemon badge at the end of each class to add to their collection (They will draw the badge on their Badge Display Sheet) Collect all 12!

Hello! Mrs. Alison here! I am a certified K-12 ELA/ESL writing teacher for the state of Texas with over eleven years of teaching experience in the classroom and online and degrees in psychology, linguistics, and sociology. I am also a published children's book author! Mix that all together and you have someone who desires to see the next generation of learners be equipped to change the world through writing - and be who they were made to be!
My “Be You & Become a Better Writer” classes are for learners between the ages of 8-12 who want to embrace who they are while learning to become better at writing. It is my desire to have learners feel the freedom to express themselves through writing while developing the skills to articulate it, whether they are writing fiction stories, poems, essays, or even personal experiences. I believe everyone has a story to tell and a voice to share. I want learners to know the potential each one of them has when they put pen to paper (or fingers to keys).
In my classroom, learners will think critically and be able to communicate clearly through writing all while being creative and passionate about the things they love!
I love meeting learners from all over the world and getting to learn from them as well. So far I have taught learners from over 35 countries and all but 3 states!
I am looking forward to growing and learning along with all the learners in my classroom!
