Class Experience

My class is an interactive one time course that is presented through an interactive PowerPoint. Students are able to develop their thinking and share their knowledge and collaborate freely. Students will be learning about the functions and parts of a plant in this lesson.

Parts of a Plant and Functions

1.	Nice to meet you, class! My name is Ms.Shafiq and today we will be learning about the different parts of a plant and their functions. Before we start, let's share one cool fact
about ourselves .(3-5 minutes)
2.	Plants are living organisms. They create and use energy, grow, and release oxygen. Plants use water, air, minerals, nutrients, and sunlight to live. Did you know that we are also living organisms and so are animals (3-4 minutes)
3.	The roots of a plant are what hold the plant into the ground. They are hair-like and white in color. Roots soak up water and nutrients from the soil like a sponge! (3-4 minutes)
4.	The stem of a plant holds the plant upright. The stem is usually green and cylinder- shaped like a straw. The stem carries water and nutrients, up and down, and to other parts of the plant (3-5minutes)
5.	The leaves of a plant help to make energy for the plant. Leaves also have veins to carry food and water to and from the stem. Leaves use sunlight, water, and air to create energy for the plant. (6 minutes)
6.	The flower of a plant makes the seeds. The flower is colorful and smells good to attract insects. Flowers also create nectar to attract insects. Insects help spread the pollen from the flower. (3-5 minutes)
7.	Seeds begin the cycle of that same plant all over again. Seeds can travel by wind, animals, and water. Seeds begin the cycle of that same plant all over again.
8.	Now lets do this matching activity together. Where is this part of the plant? (I will ask each student independently). Next, students will share one cool fact they learned today in class. I will say my farewell and answer any questions if needed.

Learning Goals

Students will be able to identify lower, roots, seed, leaves, and stem through interactive PowerPoint slides. The point of this lesson is for students to understand the functions of each and know where each plant parts lays on the plant structure.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Sidra (Ms.Shafiq). I have been in the education field for a couple of years now. I currently am a first-grade teacher at a brick and mortar school. I hope to teach subjects math, science, social studies, and English for grades K-3. I currently have a Masters of Arts in Teaching in Early Childhood (K-5) from Mercer University as well as a Bachelor's in Psychology. Outside of my teacher life, I'm a gardener, pinteresting some recipe, or making sure my first graders are on track!

My philosophy on education is to make it fun, engaging, interactive, warm, and encouraging. "Education must be perceived as a continuing reconstruction of experience" - John Dewey. Because of that, I can't make to make an impressionable academic memory for my future students
