I am an elementary/middle school level math and reading specialist with a PASSION for teaching reading! My specialty is catching students up who are significantly behind - in record time. Having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, a Master of Science in Special Education as well as several teaching certificates in two states, I have taught in public and private schools and I continue to serve students of all ages, grades and skill levels; from those with varying degrees of Autism to the naturally advanced, Pre-K through College.
Independent workbook and worksheet pages will be assigned after each lesson (not necessarily session). All written work should be completed in pencil for easy fixing of mistakes. There may be portions of multiple pages to be completed for homework but each should take no more than 10 minutes.
1 file available upon enrollmentWorkbook, worksheets and benchmark exams (all in PDF format) will be provided by teacher at no extra cost. Students should have a sharpened pencil with an eraser to work with. No pens, crayons or markers are permitted. These should be printed and compiled before the first day of class in a 3-ring binder. Supplemental materials may be available upon request.
Daily Verbal Assessments Periodic Benchmark Mastery Tests
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
*PLEASE READ - An important note about the realities of the online classroom and my particular teaching methods: Due to the accelerated nature of this course, placement testing is imperative. Provided PDF materials will need to be printed and compiled into an organized packet before the first session of class. All independent assignments must be completed by the next session date. Students who miss sessions will fall quickly behind. Please contact me immediately if any problems arise. My classes have a distinct interactive component. Students are required to respond either by voice or movement a great deal during every session. Every response called for is actually an assessment; and allows me to see whether concepts have been grasped or if re-teaching or additional practice is necessary before moving on. The nature of our wonderful online space sometimes makes this assessing quite the challenge. Much like a cell phone, ambient background noise is amplified in the online classroom. Talking, babies crying, dogs barking etc. become difficult hurdles to overcome. Additionally, we at Outschool serve students world-wide. Therefore, our audience is often on different web speeds over vastly different distances, where lag time and echoes can also hinder instruction. Because of all of the above, please know that I may find it necessary to mute students' microphones. Also know that if I must do so, it is only in attempt to hear (and see) all responses. It is not the CHILD that is being muted, but the ambient noise, echo or lag - and never as a penalty. All that said, in order to assure the best instruction for everyone, as well as allow me to assess the work of your children, please have them work in the quietest space available.
