Lesson 1
Descriptive Paragraphs and Topic Sentences
Students will learn how to write a clear descriptive paragraph with a strong topic sentence.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Opinion Paragraphs and Supporting Details
Students will learn how to argue their point of view in an opinion paragraph. They will also learn how to make sure their detail sentences fit with their topic sentence.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Expository Paragraphs and Unnecessary Details
Students will learn how to write a paragraph explaining a process or activity. They will also learn how to identify unnecessary details in their writing.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Narrative Paragraphs and Transitional Words
Students will learn how to write a paragraph that tells a brief story about an experience they've had. They will also learn how to use transitional words to create a more cohesive paragraph.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Descriptive Paragraphs and Conclusion Sentences
Students will write a second descriptive paragraph with attention to their surrounds and their five senses. They will also learn how to write an effective conclusion sentence.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Story Writing and Syntax
Students will learn how to write an engaging story beginning. They will also learn how sentence structure and length affects the effectiveness of their writing.
Students will learn how to write strong, cohesive paragraphs by going through the writing process and ensuring that their details are relevant to their topic. 
Students can bring paper and a pencil to class to work on their paragraphs.
