Paragraph Writing: Favorite Foods
This one-time course is a great warm-up for the school year! We'll practice our descriptive skills and review the format of a paragraph while writing about our favorite foods.

Beginner Level
In this 40-minute class, each student will write a descriptive paragraph about their favorite food using sensory language. We will use all five senses to help us brainstorm! This is an, engaging, low-stress way to warm-up for the school year while reviewing paragraph structure, sentence conventions, descriptive writing, and sensory language. We'll even learn some tips for tackling that tricky conclusion sentence! The teacher will present a model paragraph, and then walk students through the writing process step by step. Support will be offered along with way through scaffolds like sentence starters and word banks. All students will need a lined piece of paper and a blank piece of paper for this lesson. Students will benefit from having access to a picture of their favorite food or their favorite food placed within eye sight while participating, although this is not necessary. Colored pencils, crayons, or colored pens would also be beneficial but not necessary.
Learning Goals
Students will write a descriptive paragraph of at least 5 sentences that utilizes sensory language and demonstrates knowledge of English writing conventions.

Students should be able to read and write simple sentences in English.
