US Grade 6 - 8
Beginner Level
A well-written paragraph is the building block to all other writing. In this three week course, students will learn basic paragraph writing techniques and practice using them to write narrative, informative, and opinion paragraphs. Each week will walk learners through steps to writing paragraphs, and then we will apply them to a specific type of paragraph. This class is highly practical, with lots of discussion and hands-on practice. We will cover the entire paragraph writing process, including brainstorming, organizing, topic sentences, supporting details, and concluding sentences. This class writes one paragraph together as we work through the paragraph writing process with the selected topic; there is no independent writing during class. Week 1: Narrative Paragraphs, writing about a personal experience Week 2: Informative Paragraphs, writing about facts (these are the most common paragraphs found in school work across all subjects) Week 3: Opinion Paragraphs, writing about personal opinions and supporting those opinions clearly Learners will leave this course with a greater understanding of how to write paragraphs, and greater confidence in their writing ability. In order to do well in this class students should know how to write sentences easily. While all learners are welcome, this class is particularly beneficial for struggling or reluctant writers. Students are welcome to write an original paragraph independently each week and send it to me in an Outschool message. Students who chose to submit original paragraphs for feedback will receive a personalized video outlining strengths and areas for growth. This class is also offered in an ongoing / subscription format. https://outschool.com/classes/essay-essentials-paragraph-practice-writing-club-gPHWfsy6?sectionUid=712d06af-8c4c-4762-8dbf-0455e8a75603&usid=yvzSFmIZ&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link
