Paragraph writing is a skill that many elementary-aged children struggle with. In this course, we look at a variety of paragraph writing prompts and learn how to break apart questions in order to write concise, specific, and formulated paragraphs. We look at the P.E.E.L., RACE, TEEEC, and many other acronyms to help students with paragraph writing. This class does not require students to be enrolled for each session as it does not build off of each lesson. Students learn strategies to incorporate textual evidence, sentence structure, grammar, and more to become better paragraph writers. Students also have the option of completing post-class writing prompts each week. Optional homework will also receive feedback (teacher comments and rated on a scale of "needs improvement," "satisfactory," and "exemplary") Students should at least be reading and writing at a 4th-grade level to benefit from this course. Students will gain exposure to various types of writing prompts (literary analysis, quotes, description, narrative, etc.) Class Breakdown: 1. Writing Skill Warmup 2. Prompt reading and discussion 3. 5 minute writing time 4. Share our prompts and instructor feedback. 5. Optional writing prompt for homework
