Paleontology Series 1: Fossil Fun! Digging up the Past

US Grade 3 - 6
This lesson can be taken in any order of the Paleontology series. This lesson includes information on fossil formation, where fossils can be found, and how to dig up fossils. Students will have the chance to see many fossils ranging from 35-500 million years old. This class is interactive with a lot of student collaboration, polling, and assessing understanding along the way. Students will see video clips, look at real fossils and casts, and be prepared to dig out a fossil if ever they come...
Students will gain Earth Science knowledge about Sedimentary rocks, how they are formed, and the conditions needed to make fossils. Students will understand that different prehistoric animals lived in different time frames. Students will incorporate the knowledge gained in this class to decide on the best places to fossil hunt.
