Class Experience

During this class, students will be sharing their favorite bedtime-related item. This could be a book, stuffed animal, blanket, pillow, nightlight, or anything else they like to go to sleep with. Students are also encouraged to wear their favorite pajamas to class!

The purpose of this class is to learn and apply listening skills, questioning skills, and public speaking skills in a fun environment! We will first go over the rules of show-and-tell time, which will include why it is important to listen while others are speaking. I will share my favorite bedtime related object as an example. Then, all students will have a chance to share their favorite object related to bedtime and their classmates will be able to ask them some questions about what they shared. If time allows, students will be able to share a second item or tell us which item they liked the most out of the things that were shared with the class.

Some examples of questions that may be asked include:
-What is your favorite bedtime item?
-Why do you like it?
-What do you do with it?
-Who gave it to you or where did you get it?
-Does it have a name? (If it’s a stuffed animal or toy.)
-What is it about? (If it’s a book.)

Learning Goals

Students will improve their listening and speaking skills as they present about their own bedtime object and actively listen to others present.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am so excited to have the opportunity to meet you! I am originally from Delaware, but have lived in South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and California, before recently moving to Texas! I love to travel, spend time at the beach, do arts and crafts, and make my own little ones excited about learning!

I have over 10 years of experience working in preschool and elementary settings and I was a first grade teacher for 4 years before beginning my journey in the online teaching world about a year and a half ago. In addition to teaching with Outschool, I am an online ESL teacher and stay-at-home mom to a very energetic 4 year old and an almost 1 year old! My Bachelor’s degree is in Elementary Education and I am certified to teach PreK-6th grade. I also have my English Learner Authorization and experience with teaching ESL students in a traditional classroom and online.

I love to teach reading and phonics! It is so exciting to see the progress in my students as they gain skills and confidence in reading and comprehension! I have been trained to teach mindfulness in the classroom and also have experience with teaching social-emotional classes. I have seen the importance of explicitly teaching social skills, especially to young children, and the difference it has made in my own classrooms as students learn about and practice specific skills like respect, empathy, listening, honesty, and regulating emotions.

Thank you for reading a little bit about me! I look forward to meeting and teaching your child soon!
