Class Experience

Does your child like to dance? Are you looking to help them build social skills during the virtual school year? Great! Come to our weekly pajama dance party for girls! Dancers will play games such as Freeze Dance and improvisational games where they act out characters together. Then, we will practice following directions as we learn a party dance (Cotton Eyed Joe, Cha Cha slide, etc.), Then we will gather for in a themed show-and-tell style gathering. Each week, there will be a different them of what the student should present. This will help us begin group discussions. Learners will work on their presentation skills when they speak and they will work on their listening skills. Then, they will be prompted to give compliments and ask each other questions based on what their friend said in their presentation. Ideally, if learners come frequently enough they will build bonds and friendships with others in their class.

**Since it is a social class, it will not run with less three learners enrolled.

Learning Goals

Students will learn fun dance moves and party dances. We will also practice following directions, listening to others, and making presentations.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Please make sure your learner takes the class in an open area where they will not accidentally kick something or put themselves in danger. Ideally, the space would not be slippery, but if it is a slippery surface, it is recommended to use non-stick socks or shoes. Parents and guardians should remain nearby to assist and prevent accidents. Having a water bottle nearby is ideal. If class is taken during warmer months, it is ideal to have an air conditioner or fan running to prevent overheating.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello current friends and future friends!
Welcome to Ms. Sarah's virtual classes! I am super excited to share my passions including dance, world travel, music, writing, theater, and more with your children! My typical classes are high energy and intended to build skills, increase confidence, and have fun.
I graduated with honors with a double major in Psychology and Communications with a minor in Music from The City University of New York--Hunter College. I studied in Argentina at La Universidad de Mar del Plata and I hold a TESOL Certificate from Arizona State University.

My experience includes both in-school and online teaching, particularly as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher over the last four years and as a dance teacher for about ten years. As an ESL teacher, have worked with thousands of foreign learners, guiding them to high achievement with their English skills. I've created and utilized many tools and techniques to increase student output and improve their written, spoken, and reading skills. I also work as a mentor for new online ESL teachers. I was also who helped build the English skills of students at a local school in Livingstone, Zambia in Africa. I have taught and can speak both Spanish and Hebrew as well.

I am a trained dancer with experience holding classes in ballet, jazz, contemporary, theater, and hip hop. I studied and trained my whole life as a dancer. I danced with companies and in shows in New York City. I have also taught dance at schools in New York City, abroad in other countries. I hold both personal and virtual dance and movement classes with the company I created in my area. I ran the dance department at a day rehabilitation facility for special needs adults and at a school for the blind. What is my philosophy behind teaching dance? Dance is an art form. It is a creation of movement used to tell a story. My classes are constructed with the aim of building the student's confidence and providing a safe space for their own exploration. Classes are meant to be challenging, but very fun!

Fun Fact: Upon graduating from college, my big goal was to hit "30 before 30!" I have traveled the world, meeting so many different people along the way, as I made it my mission to see 30 countries. I am looking forward to meeting all of my future friends who live around the USA and around the world.

I am so excited to see you soon in my classroom!
