During this ongoing class, students will create their own bookmarks using cardstock, watercolor paper, or other sturdy material. Then during class, we will go through the steps of painting one of the many LGBTQ+ flags onto the bookmark. The twist? For each bookmark created during the class, the flag will be translated to a beautiful scene. Whether that be autumn trees for the lesbian flag or a stunning sunrise for the transgender flag, each class will feature a unique take on the colors and meaning for each flag. During class, students will also learn what each color represents as well as what the flag overall means. Each class will feature a different flag or a new take on a past class flag. For example, one day students may create a sun rising over a beach using the colors of the transgender flag, the next day create a rainy sky using the bisexual flag, and next week return to the transgender flag's colors again, only this time painting a sunset over a city. Creativity is encouraged and while each class may have the teacher painting a specific flag or scene, learners are encouraged to let their own creativity to dictate what they may want to paint. Discussion will be encouraged. This is a safe space for learners to express themselves, both as people and as artists. Example of class itinerary: Week of June 25th: Painting a Transgender flag bookmark with the theme of an ocean sunset. Week of July 2nd: Painting a Bisexual flag bookmark with the theme of a flower field at dusk. Week of July 9th: Painting a Nonbinary flag bookmark with the theme of a grassy field. Week of July 16th: Painting Aromantic flag bookmark with the theme of the night sky.
