Class Experience

Once you're comfortable with watercolor techniques, it's time to learn to apply them. In this class, we will be creating complete paintings rather than focusing on individual techniques at one time. Watercolor painting can be a challenge to get the hang of, but plants make great subject matter to master the medium! Plus, they make for nice, fridge-worthy works of art. 

The course breakdown is as follows:
~Day 1:...

Students will enhance their comfort using watercolor materials. They will understand how to use the wet-in-wet and glazing techniques as well as how to paint white objects. They will become familiar with design and composition principles. They will practice systems thinking to map out a plan to complete a work of art.

I have had my AA in studio art for four years, and I have been teaching intermittently over the last 13 years. I began teaching art last year after I led a paint tutorial for a sixth grade birthday party that was almost cancelled because of the pandemic. I really enjoyed it and became excited about the idea of sharing art and creativity with students. I love both the science and subjectiveness of art--I think there's a lot we can learn from it, and I can't wait to share it with your learners!

-Watercolor paints (palettes): $6+
-Watercolor paper (Michael's or Target sells it in pads): $4+
-Watercolor paint brushes (Michael's): $6+
-Pencil
-Eraser
-2 reusable, disposable cups of water for cleaning brushes
-An old rag or paper towels
Optional but helpful:
-White crayon
-Salt
-Masking or kraft tape

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

7 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
