Create your name using paint and marker on watercolor paper, while adding designs that reflect you. You will learn painting techniques that mimic the embroidery used on the clothing of the main character in the movie.

The student will look at the use of embroidery on Mirabel's skirt and discuss how the design elements that were on her skirt related to the character and her experiences and interest. They will then create a sign with their name, using art techniques that mimic the look of embroidery. They will use a mixture of markers (for most design elements) and paint (for the background) in this project. Student will come to class with their name written lightly in cursive, with a pencil. ***PROR TO CLASS: Create oval shape with name in pencil (see video on this page) - 11x15 watercolor paper (if paper is too small, it's actually harder for students to fit elements and color them easily) - Black markers (thick tip AND fine tip...they will use both!) - I prefer permanent markers so they do not smear as student works on other areas of their piece) - various brightly colored markers for name and design elements around the page (neon pinks, purples, aquas, yellow, lime green, etc.) I used fine tip and brush tip markers for most of my sign -acrylic paint for background (teal and periwinkle blue were used for Mirabel's skirt in the movie) -flat and round tipped paint brushes for painting background -water dish/rags/paper towels
