US Grade 1 - 4
In this 4 week flexible schedule class we will learn about 4 different artists (Okeeffe, Monet, Matisse, and Van Gogh ) and create art pieces that are inspired by their work. We will talk about their genre of art, create pieces to be proud of, and learn about the artists through interactive games trivia, fun facts, and scavenger hunts. Learners will post pictures and/or video of their work (and their works in progress) on the classroom page so that fellow learners and the teacher can give feedback and encouragement on their pieces. It will be uplifting and helpful to the students and peer feedback will be fun! Students will also engage with each other in art puzzles, fun trivia and games about the artists we will be talking about each week! Here are the highlights for each week! Week 1 - Georgia O'keeffe - We will discuss O'keeffe's interesting life as an female artist at the turn of the 20th century. We will talk about her colorful summer piece called Lake George, and then students will create their own Summer masterpiece using crayon and watercolor. We will talk about color, composition, creativity, and also the proper use of materials and clean up. The students will be able to create their piece based this beautiful piece, but in their own style and with their own personality and creativity. They will post pictures of their work on the classroom page so that we can give feedback and encouragement to each learner. Week 2 - Van Gogh- We will discuss his various works and his interesting life (age appropriate of course). We will talk about his colorful and rich work and his style and how it differed from other artists at the time. The students will create a Spring painting based his piece called Boats on the Beach. Students will also have a chance to do some fun extra games with each other that involve his work. Week 3 - Claude Monet - We will have fun exploring the artist Claude Monet. We will be looking at his Impressionist style that started the Impressionist movement . We will re-create one of his beautiful Summer landscapes using crayon and watercolor and students will have fun adding their own creativity to their piece. We will play a few interactive games that are Impressionist themed as well as interaction with their art pieces with each other and the teacher. Week 4 - Matisse - During this week we will look at the artist Henri Matisse. We will look at his life and how he created his post-impressionism and fauvism pieces. We will talk about his various paintings and how his fauvist style was called "wild beasts". We will re-create his Summer inspired piece called Open Window using watercolor and crayon. We will do a some fun activities related to the artist during the week. The classes will be step by step allowing time for each learner to create their piece and be proud of what they create. The videos will be clear and provide at least 2 angles. No experience is needed, but some parental help could be needed with the painting parts if the student is younger. Please look at the supplies list for everything needed for these lessons!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Florida Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Central Florida
I am excited to join Outschool as an art teacher! I LOVE art!
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art from the University of Central Florida with a concentration in painting. I have been teaching private art lessons for 25 years and have been teaching in the classroom for 19 years. I have taught pre school age through High School AP Drawing and AP 2D Design and everything in between.
I have 3 kids (ages 24, 22 and 13) and live in Orlando, Florida where I enjoy photography and streetpainting (chalk art) in my down time. I am a member of the Central Florida Chalk Artists Association and enjoy doing chalk art for events and non-profits. My daughter and I were actually featured on our local TV station back in April which was a lot of fun!
I love teaching students the art skills to be successful! I love to see students who think they can’t draw or paint find success and love what they created and be proud of it!
I like to engage students at their level and help them feel comfortable being creative, have a great time, learn about art even if they don’t realize they are learning along the way. I love to see the AHA moments they have when they create something they thought might be unachievable.
I think that students thrive when they start where they are and have lots of encouragement along the way! I am excited to be able to bring this to students around the country and the world!
