Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
In this 4 week flexible schedule class we will learn about 4 different artists (Pissarro, Manet, Seurat and Klee) and create art pieces that are inspired by their work. We will talk about their genre of art, create pieces to be proud of, and learn about the artists through interactive games and scavenger hunts.

Learners will post pictures and/or video of their work (and their works in progress) on the classroom page so that fellow learners and the teacher can give feedback on their pieces. It will be uplifting and helpful to the students and peer feedback will be fun and expected!
Students will also engage with each other in art scavenger hunts, fun trivia and fun art related games with each other!
Here are the highlights for each week!

Week 1 - Camille Pissarro - We will discuss his life and his involvement with the Impressionist movement in Paris. We will talk about his piece called The Meadow With Gray Horse and then students will create their own masterpiece using crayon and watercolor. We will talk about color, composition, creativity, and also the proper use of materials and clean up. The students will be able to create their piece based on The Meadow With Gray Horse, but in their own style and with their own personality and creativity. They will post pictures of their work on the classroom page so that we can give feedback and encouragement to each learner.

Week 2 - Edouard Manet - We will discuss his various works and his life as another French painter in the Impressionist period but not a typical Impressionist. He was hard to define and didn't like to be categorized. We will talk about his work in an age appropriate manner (no nudity will be shown). The students will create their Manet painting based on his masterpiece called The Grand Canal using crayon and watercolor. Students will also have a chance to do some fun extra games with each other about his life and art.

Week 3 - Georges Seurat - We will have fun exploring the artist Seurat. We will be looking at his Pointillism works and how they fit in with the Impressionists at the time period. We will re-create his famous work The Seine (From La Grande Jatte) using crayon and acrylic paint and students will have fun adding their own creativity to their piece. We will play a few interactive games that center around Seurat and his Pointillism pieces as well as interaction with their art pieces with each other and the teacher.

Week 4 - Paul Klee - During this week we will look at the artist Paul Klee. We will discuss his interesting style and how it fit into the Expressionism movement of the time. We will discuss his work (only showing age appropriate pieces). We will look at his use of abstract shapes (a part of the Cubism movement started by Picasso) and discuss how this ties into the elements and principles of art with is creations. We will discuss abstract art and our opinions on this genre of art. We will re-create his piece Head of a Man using watercolor and crayon. We will do a some fun interactive games related to his life and work.

The classes will be step by step allowing time for each learner to create their piece and be proud of what they create. The videos will be clear and provide at least 2 angles.

No experience is needed, but some parental help could be needed with the painting parts if the student is younger.

Please look at the supplies list for everything needed for these lessons!

I am excited to join Outschool as an art teacher! I LOVE art!
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art from the University of Central Florida with a concentration in painting. I have been teaching private art lessons for 25 years and have been teaching in the classroom for 19 years. I have taught pre school age through High School AP Drawing and AP 2D Design and everything in between.
I have 3 kids (ages 24, 22 and 13) and live in Orlando, Florida where I enjoy photography and streetpainting (chalk art) in my down time. I am a member of the Central Florida Chalk Artists Association and enjoy doing chalk art for events and non-profits. My daughter and I were actually featured on our local TV station back in April which was a lot of fun!
I love teaching students the art skills to be successful! I love to see students who think they can’t draw or paint find success and love what they created and be proud of it!
I like to engage students at their level and help them feel comfortable being creative, have a great time, learn about art even if they don’t realize they are learning along the way. I love to see the AHA moments they have when they create something they thought might be unachievable.
I think that students thrive when they start where they are and have lots of encouragement along the way! I am excited to be able to bring this to students around the country and the world!
