In this 4 week flexible schedule class we will learn about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and create art pieces that are inspired by his work. We will talk about the Expressionist movement, watch a step by step video (created by the teacher) to paint artwork, and learn about the artist through games and puzzles. Week 1Lesson 1Starry NightThis week, we're exploring Vincent van Gogh's iconic Starry Night! While inspired by Impressionism, Van Gogh is considered a Post-Impressionist, using bold colors and swirling brushstrokes to express emotions. We'll learn more about him and this fascinating art movement!Week 2Lesson 2Boats on the BeachThis week, we're diving into Vincent Van Gogh's world with his captivating "Boats on the Beach." While lesser-known, this piece bursts with his signature style – bold colors and swirling brushstrokes. Don't worry about capturing every detail – the focus is on having fun and exploring Van Gogh's unique approach!Week 3Lesson 3Wheat Field with CrowsThis week, we're exploring Vincent van Gogh's powerful masterpiece, "Wheat Field with Crows." Filled with swirling blues and vibrant yellows, this work is beautiful. Be excited and create your own Van Gogh-inspired artwork!Week 4Lesson 4Cafe Terrace at NightThis week, let's get inspired by Vincent van Gogh's vibrant "Café Terrace at Night"! This captivating scene features a bustling cafe bathed in warm yellow light, contrasting beautifully with the cool blues of the night sky. We'll be exploring this masterpiece and then, get ready to create your own café scene filled with color and light!
Each learner will need: - A watercolor set - A brush (any size will do) - A cup with water to clean the brush - Set of crayons (or oil pastels) - Heavy white paper (watercolor paper is preferred but not completely necessary) - Table protection (newspaper, butcher paper etc). - Smock or old t-shirt to keep the paints off of your child's clothing
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Parents are encouraged to be close by during the classes to help their learner with the painting process to minimize spills (especially with electronics close by!) and to make sure their paints and markers stay on the paper. Short youtube videos may be used to show the biography of the artist's life.
