US Grade 1 - 4
In this 4 week flexible schedule class we will learn about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and create art pieces that are inspired by his work. We will talk about the Expressionist movement, watch a step by step video (created by the teacher) to paint artwork, and learn about the artist through games and puzzles. On Mondays around 10:00am (Eastern) I will post the lesson on the classroom page. There will be a step by step video instruction for the painting the week as well as additional information. Learners will post pictures and/or video of their work (and their works in progress) on the classroom page so that fellow learners and the teacher can give feedback and encouragement on their pieces. It will be uplifting and helpful to the students and peer feedback will be fun! Students will also engage with each other in art puzzles, fun trivia and games about the artists we will be talking about each week! Here are the highlights for each week! Week 1 - Starry Night - We will discuss Van Gogh's life as well has his art work in general and the influences in his life. We will discuss his use of color and his start of the Expressionism movement. The students will be able to create their artwork based on Starry Night, but in their own style and with their own personality and creativity. They will post pictures of their work on the classroom page so that we can give feedback and encouragement to each learner. Week 2 - Boats Saintes-maries - We will have fun looking at this great painting by Van Gogh. It's not as well known as other paintings that he did, but it's a masterpiece! We will do a painting inspired by this work. We will have some games that are Impressionist themed as well as interaction with their art pieces with each other and the teacher. Week 3 - Wheat Field with Crows - Van Gogh's last painting is beautiful. We will look at how his work became famous after this death, his letters and how his sister in law was the key to his eventual success as an artist even though he never knew it. We will do the artwork inspired by this piece and a some fun activities related to the artist during the week. Week 4 - Cafe Terrace at Night - We will discuss this artwork and where it was painted. We'll look at what the cafe looks like today (yes it's still there today!) and see his perspective on Arles, France where this was painted. Students will also have a chance to do some fun extra games with each other that involve his work and his life. The classes will be step by step allowing time for each learner to create their piece and be proud of what they create. The videos will be clear and provide at least 2 angles. No experience is needed, but some parental help could be needed with the painting parts if the student is younger. Please look at the supplies list for everything needed for these lessons!

I am excited to join Outschool as an art teacher! I LOVE art!
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art from the University of Central Florida with a concentration in painting. I have been teaching private art lessons for 25 years and have been teaching in the classroom for 19 years. I have taught pre school age through High School AP Drawing and AP 2D Design and everything in between.
I have 3 kids (ages 24, 22 and 13) and live in Orlando, Florida where I enjoy photography and streetpainting (chalk art) in my down time. I am a member of the Central Florida Chalk Artists Association and enjoy doing chalk art for events and non-profits. My daughter and I were actually featured on our local TV station back in April which was a lot of fun!
I love teaching students the art skills to be successful! I love to see students who think they can’t draw or paint find success and love what they created and be proud of it!
I like to engage students at their level and help them feel comfortable being creative, have a great time, learn about art even if they don’t realize they are learning along the way. I love to see the AHA moments they have when they create something they thought might be unachievable.
I think that students thrive when they start where they are and have lots of encouragement along the way! I am excited to be able to bring this to students around the country and the world!
