Class Experience

Thank you for your interest in this art class.
In this camp, students will learn about a famous artist per day. After learning a brief historical perspective as to what made each artist famous, students will create their own masterpiece in the style of a famous painting. I will guide each student step-by-step. There will be a few slides included for reference. Parents will receive images to print and use for reference. Discussions are always welcomed in my class!

Artists we will cover may include Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, and Andy Warhol. Before the pandemic, I taught art history classes in schools, recreational centers, art centers, and parties. The four artists mentioned above have been the most popular with all my students. I am not limited to these artists! If you have a request, please let me know!

Students should have painting experience before taking this class. I will teach them new techniques, but it is important they know how to control the paint and brush.

Learning Goals

Students will learn a quick history lesson on specific artists. They will gain new painting skills as they mimic the popular artist's masterpieces. This camp will elevate your student in their journey as they become a skilled artist. My college professor once told me "It is important to learn from the masters before you go out on your own".

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! Welcome to my class. This is a safe space to explore the academic curriculum through various pedagogy techniques including kinesthetic movement, artistic creativity, and using manipulatives. In other words, HAVING FUN!

Credentials:
BSED (Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education)
ESOL endorsement (English to Speakers of Other Languages)
AA (Associate in Specialized Technology) for Graphic Design.
I have spent the last five years studying and teaching diverse learners in B&M schools. A passion of mine is to help struggling students gain comprehension of the material. It is important to me that the students feel confident and excited to learn. This can be easily accomplished through teaching multi-sensory lessons.

Philosophy: Non-violent communication is the backbone of my teaching style. Some of my inspirations include RIE (Respectful Infant Education), Montessori, Capturing Kids Hearts, and Orton-Gillingham. I believe it is important to challenge students in a fun and creative way that will complement academic goals. Peaceful communication and positive reinforcement encourage student growth. Most of all, learning can be REALLY FUN!

Fun Fact: I am a maker of things! I love making stuff like dolls, clothes, food, books, posters, and more! I tend to paint anything that looks plain to me. I love refurbishing and recycling. I think it is a gift to use what is available in order to create less waste.
