In this fun and creative one-time class, students will follow along with me to paint this acrylic painting of this Lucky Leprechaun in a Pot of Gold. This will be a fun class to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. This class will be a directed painting class as I describe and demonstrate the process step-by-step. Learners will be able to see my face as well as my painting throughout the class. They will be able to ask questions at any time during class. Students will learn basic painting techniques of color mixing, applying paint with a brush to canvas, and how to clean their supplies to keep them in good condition. Tempera paint can be used in place of acrylics. Though this class is best for those with some previous painting experience, absolute beginners are welcome to join as well. Each step will the clearly explained and demonstrated. However, everyone paints a little differently, so each painting will look different from the example and that's okay! Please check the supply list for materials used. I will explain each step and then demonstrate how to do it. I will give everyone time to complete each step before moving on to the next. In addition to basic painting techniques, students will learn about the colors of the rainbow and why they have a specific order. This small group format allows me to ensure the pace of painting is appropriate for everyone so that no one falls behind in the instructions. The class may go longer than the listed time to make sure everyone ends with a completed painting.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Science from Eastern Kentucky University
Hello everyone!
If you see a class you like but the time doesn't work, I'm happy to work with your schedule. Even if you are in a different time zone or my automatic availability isn't open at a certain time, reach out and there is a good chance I can make something work for you.
A bit about me and my teaching style:
I am passionate about art and creativity. Even more so, I love to inspire that in others. It's not about talent or skills you were born with, it's all about expressing yourself and growing your talent through practice and guidance. I believe everyone has the ability to create masterpieces and should have the freedom to find their own way of making them. I teach with a step-by-step demonstration approach while encouraging students to do it their own way whenever they feel ready to do so. This approach allows for wonderfully blended classes where the less experienced or shy learners can follow along with me and the bolder ones can work in their own way alongside us. Either way, we all end up with unique art we can be proud of and improved knowledge about the art/craft process we are practicing.
My classes are designed to be highly interactive and engaging with questions & answers throughout as well as hands-on activities. Be sure to check the supply list for each class because learners get the best experience when they are ready to learn with every material needed for the class.
In addition to my bachelor's degree in biology, I have a Graphic Arts certificate which I earned from Autry Technology Center. I earned 1st place in state (Oklahoma) and 6th nationally in the 2001 National Skills USA Championship competition in graphic communications. I teach the arts of drawing and painting to adults online on a voluntary basis. I also teach arts and crafts to children as a professional online and as a volunteer in person.
I have over 3 years of online teaching experience with students 4-17 years old. I have also worked with children in person in a variety of settings from my current position as a children's church leader to volunteering in afterschool care for at-risk children.
