In this 35 minute class, the student will draw or trace a unicorn I will send prior to class. In the class, we will add the unicorn's mane in a style of the student's choosing (I will demonstrate a couple of options), and then we will paint it. I encourage students to explore their creativity and add to the painting in any way they would like, and to choose colors they want. Student may ask me questions at any point during the class and I encourage them to share their progress is they are...
Student will learn to blend colors to create a rainbow mane on the unicorn. We will create a background color (of student's choice) around the unicorn, leaving the unicorn white. The student will learn to mix primary colors to create secondary colors and will learn how to mix to keep colors from becoming 'muddy'.
A drawing of the unicorn will be posted prior to class to print out, and a how-to video will also be posted to show how to trace it onto watercolor paper or canvas prior to class. (We will draw the unicorn's mane at the start of class before beginning our painting.)
-watercolor paper or canvas -acrylic paints in colors of student's choice (I used pink, purple, yellow, green, blue and red. I used a gold metallic acrylic craft paint to outline areas of the unicorn and add movement to the mane) -assorted paint brushes in a few sizes (perhaps a 1" for backgrounds, and a 1/2" or #12 round for - water jar (for cleaning brushes) -paper towels -old rag to clean brushes
35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
