In this one time painting class, paint along with me as we make a Northern Lights sky silhouetted with pine trees. The aurora borealis gives the feeling magic in the cold winter months.

In this one time painting class, students will paint the Northern Lights while learning a few interesting facts about the aurora borealis. Students will learn basic painting techniques, and I will lead a lively discussion about the Northern Lights and how best to create them using paint. Students will use a combination of watercolor paint and acrylic paint to create this look. At the beginning of the class, I will go over the art materials with all students. We will discuss color mixing and use the wet on wet watercolor technique for the sky background. Next, I will introduce the use of black and white acrylic paint and how to paint the shapes of pine trees. Lastly, we will add touches of snow on the ground and branches, and perhaps a few stars in the sky. My teaching style relaxed. Students can go at their own pace. I will encourage students to show me their artwork along the way so that I can give feedback that is both educational and enthusiastic. Learners will get to interact with me and with each other, while creating their own artwork and watching my demonstration. At the end of class, students can show their artwork to each other and to me. If students don't feel comfortable sharing, students may opt to post a photo of the finished project in the classroom. Any prior basic painting experience is recommended, but not required, for this class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn basic painting techniques, including the wet on wet watercolor technique, and how to paint a silhouette. Students will gain confidence in their artistic ability.

Watercolor paper is recommended as that will give the best results. Cold press 140-pound watercolor paper is ideal. Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.Reviews
