Class Experience

What mischief has Rudolph been up to now? It looks like colorful fun! Let's join in and have some fun of our own.

In this fun step-by-step art class, learners will discover the basic techniques of painting in acrylic or tempera paint on canvas. No previous experience is needed but it is also a fun class for experienced painters. You will need a pencil, paint, canvas, paintbrushes, and clean-up supplies. Please check the supply list for materials used.

*Multi-learner classes will be discounted from the listed price. (Upon request) Enroll in a class with another learner or invite a friend!

This is a fun painting for anyone to create. During the process, learners will experience the different techniques of applying acrylic paint to a canvas. We will explore using different paintbrush sizes for details vs filling in large areas of color. Will also discuss how much paint to use with different methods. We'll sketch an outline lightly with a pencil, paint with acrylics (you can use an alternative coloring method if you prefer), and finish by adding highlights and shading.

This small group format allows me to ensure the pace of painting is appropriate for everyone so that no one falls behind in the instructions. However, class time may run longer than what is listed to ensure everyone finishes with a completed painting. Specific details in the painting may be added or left out depending on group decisions in class.

Learning Goals

Learn how to create this painting by following my guidance. Learn techniques that can be applied to other acrylic paintings.

Hello everyone!
If you see a class you like but the time doesn't work, I'm happy to work with your schedule. Even if you are in a different time zone or my automatic availability isn't open at a certain time, reach out and there is a good chance I can make something work for you.

A bit about me and my teaching style:
I am passionate about art and creativity. Even more so, I love to inspire that in others. It's not about talent or skills you were born with, it's all about expressing yourself and growing your talent through practice and guidance. I believe everyone has the ability to create masterpieces and should have the freedom to find their own way of making them. I teach with a step-by-step demonstration approach while encouraging students to do it their own way whenever they feel ready to do so. This approach allows for wonderfully blended classes where the less experienced or shy learners can follow along with me and the bolder ones can work in their own way alongside us. Either way, we all end up with unique art we can be proud of and improved knowledge about the art/craft process we are practicing.

My classes are designed to be highly interactive and engaging with questions & answers throughout as well as hands-on activities. Be sure to check the supply list for each class because learners get the best experience when they are ready to learn with every material needed for the class.

In addition to my bachelor's degree in biology, I have a Graphic Arts certificate which I earned from Autry Technology Center. I earned 1st place in state (Oklahoma) and 6th nationally in the 2001 National Skills USA Championship competition in graphic communications. I teach the arts of drawing and painting to adults online on a voluntary basis. I also teach arts and crafts to children as a professional online and as a volunteer in person.
I have over 3 years of online teaching experience with students 4-17 years old. I have also worked with children in person in a variety of settings from my current position as a children's church leader to volunteering in afterschool care for at-risk children.
