๐ Explore Timeless Stories & Strengthen Reading Skills! Reading isnโt just an essential skillโitโs an adventure! In this middle school book club, students will dive into a selection of thought-provoking and classic novels, exploring themes of friendship, identity, resilience, and discovery. Through guided reading, interactive discussions, and engaging activities, students will strengthen their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and literary analysis skills. ๐ Featured Books: Throughout this course, students will explore the following novels: ๐ Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonneblick โ A heartfelt story of family, music, and resilience ๐ Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech โ A moving journey of self-discovery and storytelling ๐ The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton โ A classic tale of belonging, identity, and social divisions ๐ The Giver by Lois Lowry โ A thought-provoking dystopian novel about memory and choice ๐ A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine LโEngle โ A science fiction adventure exploring courage and love ๐ What Students Will Learn: Throughout the course, students will: โ Analyze plot events โ Track key story developments and character arcs โ Describe characters โ Examine traits, motivations, and relationships โ Recognize themes โ Explore deeper meanings and life lessons in literature โ Expand vocabulary โ Define and apply new words in context โ Support answers with text evidence โ Strengthen comprehension through textual analysis ๐ How the Course Works: ๐ For each book, students will receive: โ๏ธ A set of comprehension questions & vocabulary words to complete while reading โ๏ธ An introductory video from the instructor, providing background information โ๏ธ Interactive activities to reinforce key concepts ๐ Each class session includes: โ๏ธ A review of comprehension questions, vocabulary, plot points, and character analysis โ๏ธ A discussion of important quotes, themes, and literary elements โ๏ธ A fun, interactive Blooket game based on the assigned chapters! ๐ By the end of this course, students will have developed deeper reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, and a love for literature.
Learning Goals
Students will gain knowledge of new vocabulary words by defining unknown words and participating in discussions.
Students will learn/review plot elements (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) by participating in discussions.
