US Grade 3 - 6
This class will introduce students to four significant civil rights activists who are often overlooked: Claudette Colvin, Medgar Evers, Daisy Bates, and Amelia Boynton Robinson. Students will learn about the lives and contributions of four remarkable activists. We will talk about their backgrounds, the challenges they faced, and the strategies they used to fight for the equality and justice we all have today. We will examine the stories of Claudette Colvin, who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus nine months before Rosa Parks; Medgar Evers, a leading figure in the fight against segregation in Mississippi; Daisy Bates, the advocate who played an important role in the integration of Little Rock's Central High School; and Amelia Boynton Robinson, a voting rights activist who was brutally beaten during the 1965 voting rights march in Selma, Alabama. By the end of this course, students will have a deeper understanding of these activists and the contributions they made in the civil rights movement This class will be very informative and it also connects to my other African American classes. This lesson will be interactive, and each student will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. If you have any questions about the class or suggestions please send a message. This class could possibly go over 30 minutes, as I love to give all students the time speak if they chose to do so.
