4 live meetings
2 in-class hoursAssessment
There is no formal assessment for this class, but students are encouraged to participate, share, and practice the tools we learn.Class Experience
In this Multi-Day class, we will meet 4 times over two weeks. This class is meant to be another tool to help students gain a better understanding of what anxiety is, and feel empowered to conquer their anxiety. The course encourages interaction between the teacher and students through class participation in answering questions, drawing and sharing the things we draw, and practicing the tips that we learn together. During the first meeting, we will go over what anxiety means, talk about a times when we feel anxiety, different parts of the brain and their role with anxiety (Hippocampus (Memory Brain), the Pre-Frontal Cortex (Smart Brain), and the Amygdala (Safety Brain), and what happens to them when we feel anxiety. We will also go over some things that give us anxiety. We will go over 3 simple techniques to feel better when we have anxiety. This first meeting will be a review of my other class Anxiety in the Brain and Tips to Deal with It, so students who have taken it before can have a review. Students do not need to take my other class to be able to take this class. During the second meeting, we will quickly review what we learned in the first class. We will also talk about where we feel anxiety in our bodies and the effects of anxiety on our bodies. Students will be given a coloring page of a boy or girl to print out beforehand to color different parts of their body where they feel anxiety (If the student does not have a printer, they can use a blank sheet of paper and create their own instead). We will show these pictures to the class and discuss. We will go over some more techniques to conquer anxiety. During the third meeting, we will review what we learned in the past two classes. I will talk about what mindfulness is and how it can help us with anxiety. We will go over different mindfulness techniques, along with a coloring activity that we will share as a class. Students will need a blank paper and things to color with for this meeting. During the fourth meeting, we will review the things we learned in the past classes, and I will have different situations of anxiety, and we will talk about what tips could help with those situations and practice telling our brains the true information. We will end my drawing ourselves overcoming anxiety and sharing. Students will need a blank paper and coloring supplies for this meeting. I will give students a handout, so they can review what they learned when the class is done.
