Class Experience

Origami is a decorative paper-folding technique with origins in Japan. For centuries, people have used origami as a means of fun and relaxation. In this class, we'll use origami to make a "fortune cookie" that you can can give to friends and family to pass along a fortune or a cute message!

Origami has many benefits, such as:
-Building fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
-Increasing attention and patience, as it takes time to master the intricate folds
-Strengthening memory, through remembering the steps to make each model

This class will be mainly instructional and will follow an "I do, we do, you do" format. First, I'll go through the process of folding the model one step at a time to show everyone how to make it. This will allow students to observe and practice their listening skills. Next, I'll go through the process again, this time having the students fold their models with me to give them a chance to experience the steps hands-on. Once the students feel comfortable with the steps, they'll have some time to fold the model independently. At each step of the process, students are encouraged to ask questions to clarify anything they're unsure about if they get stuck on one of the steps.

Please note: This class is geared towards learners who have at least intermediate experience with origami, as some of the folds are a bit challenging.

Supply List
For this class, you will need:
-3 pieces of square paper. You can use printer or notebook paper, but paper made specifically for origami is recommended. I DO NOT recommend construction paper or cardstock, as these are too thick for paper folding. I also recommend using smaller squares for this model, around 3" x 3", but bigger ones can work as well.
-A small strip of paper to write the fortune/message on
-Something to write with
