Outside the Box: Writing for the Reluctant, Creative, and Terrified
This writing course will have students practicing a variety of styles as we explore themes from their favorite books and movies. This is an ongoing style, full-year course, divided into 12 monthly units.

Description
Class Experience
This is a full-year course divided into 11, 4-week units. Each month will feature a different topical focus and unique monthly project. Monthly units do not build upon each other and students may join in at any time. See information below for each month's scheduled content and projects. This course is designed as a companion course to Outside the Box: Project-Based Reading for the Reluctant, Creative, & Terrified!, taught by Jeremy Ballard. However, students do not need to be enrolled in Mr....
Students will learn the structure and writing style required to write - fiction - poetry - instructions - comic books - essays They will focus on themes found in literature to build their own writing skills and style! They will learn to edit and peer review and how to make corrections to their work.
Students will have one project to complete each month. They will be given time to work on it in class but will need to do some writing outside of class each week in order to complete the project.
Students will need paper and pencil or a computer to write on. Worksheets will be provided that can be printed.
Students will receive feedback from the teacher on each writing project. A letter grade will not be given unless requested in advance.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students will have the option to read books or movies related to our monthly topics and will need to obtain these on their own and watch/read them outside of class.
