Class Experience

Hello! My name is Amy Morales. I teach English, math, and writing, as well as some other courses. I taught in the Elementary school setting for 8 years. I was an online ESL teacher for two years. I firmly believe that a student needs to feel welcomed and comfortable in order to be able to learn to their best potential. I live in Jacksonville, North Carolina, USA. I have three children, ages 7, 4 and 3. Please let me know if you don't see a course that you want, as I am always open to creating new classes! I look forward to seeing your child in my classroom!

My name is Maria Thorne! I love to teach STEM, Science, Language Arts, and Art to children because these subjects allow them to be creative, while also learning higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). In a world full of consumers, I like the idea that I am helping build a future of producers. This is what gets me up and out of bed in the mornings. Some of the things I teach include making duct tape wallets, making mini-hovercraft, Google Slides, Powerpoint, painting, drawing, making paper bead necklaces, and hosting engineering challenges.

My philosophy of teaching is that all children can learn and should love to learn. Developing a love of learning can be made or taken away depending on the teacher and the teacher's attitude. I believe that as a teacher, it is my job to help children develop a lifelong love of learning. I have been an educator for 31 years. During that time, I have taught all academic areas for kindergarten through fifth grade. I have also been a STEM teacher and Art teacher. I am certified to teach in many different areas including teaching children with special needs. I spent 17 years teaching in a special needs classroom. I also spent 11 years as a Media Specialist/School Librarian. I am certified to teach early childhood and special education. I have an ESL endorsement and I hold a current TEFL certificate as well.

The name my students gave me is Library Dragon, not like the one in the children's book, but because if I don't see enough smiles in a day, my human makeup falls off and my scales start to show. I am married, have two wonderful sons, and whatever fur babies my husband happens to bring home (currently 3). My pronouns are she/her.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
2 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
